Miami held the fourth race of the 2014 Racing Season at the Mall of the Americas, Flagler Street TigerDirect.com Retail Store on Saturday, June 1st. Over 20 racers had signed up in advance for the event and 18 racers were onsite, on time and ready to race. The excitement level was high as three prior race participants from 2012 were present, two of which had won trips to compete in the National Finals in Las Vegas just a few months ago.
The race was held in two heats – and during the first heat, 9 racers battled it out and while veterans were in the mix, a new racer and self proclaimed “lifelong PC builder,” Danny Zamarano, finished in first place with an incredible time of 4 minutes, 33 seconds. Blake Tintorri finished in second place with a time of 5 minutes 2 seconds and Mijail Tornes finished third with a time of 5 minutes and 5 seconds, Lester Torres came in fourth with a time of 6 minutes and 11 seconds. Veteran Rocco Juliano came in fifth place at 6:29.
Then the pressure was on for the second heat of racers, including veteran Ryan Hoekenga who was joined by veteran Rocco Juliano’s brother Marc, ready to race while off from his job as a paramedic (and not a PC builder). Once the 2nd heat started, it was obvious that Ryan was going for that trip to Las Vegas and finished the race with an all new 16 year record time of 3 minutes and 50 seconds, beating out January 2013′s record time of 3:53 by Benjamin Heide of BCCHardware.com. 2nd place came in at 4:08 by Fidel Lopez and 3rd place, with a time of 4:29 was taken by Carlos Zamarano.
